Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

I’m assuming most of you have heard of Pinterest? It’s pretty common to ‘pin’ a lot of things but never get around to trying them out so I wanted to take the time to share a few of my pins that I have actually gotten around to trying.

On the docket today are these Banana Muffins. I have a freezer full of bananas that were going bad but I didn’t want to throw away. When there were three more I was about to banish away I decided I should use them instead! The original recipe called for just chocolate chips, but I got a little crazy and threw in some macadamia nuts too {call me crazy!}.

I felt like the recipe turned out pretty well and I’ll be sure to save this one to do again!

Sprouted Kitchen

January 26, 2012

The Sprouted Kitchen is a great collaboration blog to browse not only for the recipes but for the amazing photography. I just love this husband and wife duo – she gets to practice her cooking and he gets to practice his photography, the perfect combo for yummy treats and inspiring images!

Want : Cookie Cutters

April 13, 2011

Every once in awhile I stumble upon a kitchen accessory that seems so necessary to have in my kitchen – and then I remind myself that I cannot collect massive amounts of items I use ‘for that special occasion’ until I have a more permanent home and one with lots of storage space!  These cookie cutters from Williams-Sonoma are adorable and they come with slide in letters and words to customize your message.  I also had to throw in these Star Wars cookie cutters for my sister – is there a new movie coming out or something?  They had a lot of Star Wars options!

Valentine on my Mind

February 8, 2011

Less than a week away – hopefully you’ve realized by now that it’s Valentine’s day on Monday!  Whether you have someone specifically special in your life or you’ll be celebrating your love for mankind in general, here are a few things to show them you care.

1 – An adorable heart dish: ceramic, grey, lace, sold.
2 – These are actually lavender sachets: practical and lovey
3 – E-Valentines from Kate Spade: fun, quirky, and FREE
4 – Geometric card: simple, bold, to the point
5 – Bake a cake with a surprise inside: a heart!

and a few more cards and prints to keep the love flowing.

Clockwise:
Flower Heart print, I Heart You print, adorable Just My Type card, and my favorite – the Giant Burrito card

Crock-pots are amazing!  Especially during these colder winter months; dump in a bunch of ingredients and then hours later you have a hot meal waiting.  My latest adventures with the crock-pot involved a sweet potato chili {which I didn’t like as much as I thought I would} and making a homemade version on Chipotle’s barbacoa shredded beef.  I made a cilantro lime rice to further authenticate the Chipotle at home experience and I ate mini tacos for five days straight!

Today I’m taking a cake into work to celebrate recent birthdays!  It made me think about adding a cake stand to my kitchen items.  The items from Herriott Grace have been floating around the internet, and for good reason.  Gorgeous wood pieces lovingly created and sold by a father-daughter team – updates to their store are sold out almost instantly.  Which means these pedestal plates are a great item to add to the ‘want‘ files!

I decided this year I want to try and share a bit more of ‘behind the scenes’ what I do and make – first up are some baked goods – spice cake mini cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and sliced kumquats to be exact!  The inspiration for these yummies came from a friends bridal shower I went to in December.  The hostess created pretty much the same thing but with gingerbread cupcakes – so good.  I had a boxed spice cake mix that I figured would create an adequate substitution.  The fact that they’re mini doesn’t hurt either!

Going back to my love of anything wrapped in pretty patterns… I need to try some of this chocolate!  Watch the video to see the amazing story behind these delicious treats from Mast Brothers Chocolate.

Food Styling

December 27, 2010

For Christmas I received a subscription to Real Simple magazine {thanks Mom & Dad!} and the minute I saw these food styling images from this January’s issue I had to share them!  They’re shot by Con Poulos for the ‘Comfort in a Bowl‘ series.  I love the mix of all the patterns of the backgrounds and different dishes – oh, and the food looks yum too!
